Veneers
Barry Family Dental of Orem, Utah is trained in doing veneers. Veneers are a cosmetic procedure and can change the look of the front teeth for various reasons. These are:
- spaces between teeth
- chipped and broken teeth
- stained fillings or teeth
- crooked teeth.
Veneers are fairly simple and only a little tooth structure is removed. The outcome is a very beautiful smile and natural looking teeth. Composite is usually used when only a small amount of the tooth needs replaced. Porcelain is used when the front surface needs replaced. Porcelain veneers are made of a layer of porcelain or composite, and are bonded to the tooth permanently. Both types of veneers are bonded right to the surface of the tooth. In your first appointment, an impression is taken and sent to the lab where they make your veneers. Your tooth will also be etched. This makes the tooth rough so that the veneer will bond properly. When you have the veneers seated, a tooth-colored bond is applied and the veneers bond to the tooth.
Veneers can last a lifetime if taken care of properly. You should have your 6-month check-ups and continue regular hygiene at home. Avoid staining foods such as coffee, tea, cherries, berries, and red wine. Make sure not to bite nails, or open things with your teeth. This could cause chipping or other damage. Porcelain veneers make a beautiful change and make you feel much better about how you look.
